FAQs Regarding Schmidt’s During the COVID-19 Outbreak

Following is a Question & Answer document with the most updated and accurate information on Schmidt’s response to the Coronavirus threat in Central Ohio and what we are doing to help flatten the curve:

Q: Why is Schmidt’s German Village Restaurant closed for carryout and delivery, in addition to the dining room?
A: We have made the decision to temporarily close our restaurant operations at this time out of an abundance of caution and to do our part in flattening the Coronavirus curve in Central Ohio. We do have a team member who has been tested, as a precaution, for Coronavirus. Someone in their home required testing, as they may have been indirectly exposed to the virus through one of their co-workers at their place of employment (that place of employment is not Schmidt’s). Once we have the test results, we will issue an update.

Please know that our three Schmidt’s Sausage Trucks will be operating in suburbs across Central Ohio – please visit www.schmidthaus.com/sausage-truck for information on hours and locations. The Schmidt’s Sausage Trucks are completely independent of the restaurant and employ separate team members and operate out of a separate location.

Q: Where can I get my Schmidt’s fix during this time?
A: You can get Schmidt’s in two ways:

Q: Have any Schmidt’s team members tested positive for Coronavirus?
A: No. We do have an employee who has been tested for the Coronavirus simply as a precaution. Someone in their home required testing, as they may have been indirectly exposed to the virus through one of their co-workers at their place of employment (that place of employment is not Schmidt’s). Once we have the test results, we will issue an update.
We have made the decision to temporarily close the German Village restaurant through an abundance of caution for both our staff and the public.

Q: When will you reopen the German Village Restaurant?
A: We will re-open the restaurant as soon as Gov. Mike DeWine lifts the ban on restaurant dining room operations. We understand and are in lockstep with the Governor’s strong leadership and are committed to working together to flatten the Coronavirus curve.

A timeline for reopening will be dependent upon the Governor and Ohio Dept. of Health timelines. But rest assured, we have made it through the Great Depression, the Blizzard of 1978, a devastating fire that shut down the restaurant for four months and the Great Recession – in the words of our friend and frequent guest over the years, Arnold Schwarzenegger, “We will be back!” and together, we will all be stronger than ever.

Q: How can I make sure I do my part to help flatten the Coronavirus curve?
A: Please see Gov. DeWine’s recommendations on self- isolation and social distancing. Our best recommendation is to go to this website https://coronavirus.ohio.gov for more information and to see the criteria for being tested.

Q: How can we support Schmidt’s and Schmidt’s team members during this time?
A: We appreciate our incredible guests and patrons who have invested in our business for 134 years. There are three main ways you can support us during this time:

We thank you so much for your support. We can’t wait to be fully operational soon to serve our thousands of guests and fans!
